English Language and Intercultural Skills


English Language (65%) – improve your skills and knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary through intensive training in reading, writing, speaking and listening from two experienced native English-speaking teachers.


Intercultural Competence (35%) – awareness of issues surrounding the intercultural classroom, how to manage a variety of cultures in one class, discussion and advice on how to make the most out of a multi-cultural group. The Intercultural Competence element of the course will also be conducted in English to give plenty of opportunities for further practice in English skills.


Aims – Stenden is an international organisation with many non-Dutch-speaking students for a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. This course gives employees the opportunity to sharpen up their skills and further improve our front-line delivery in an intercultural competent way- in English, in emails, general text-writing and, of course, teaching!

Language RequirementsThe course is on an intermediate/advanced level.
The minimum required entry level is +/-B2*(according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

If you are not sure what your level is you can contact the Stenden Professionals Language Centre (tim.unsworth@stenden.com). Before entry, applicants will be asked to take part in a 5 to 10 minute (Skype) interview. During the interview the applicants will be asked to email a short piece of their writing

Prior to the departure to Bali, Indonesia, all participants will be more formally assessed in order to establish a baseline.

For employees of Stenden University The Netherlands, the course fee will be fully compensated and Stenden will contribute € 500 towards your accommodation and travel costs (subject to team-leader and HRM approval)
